Abstract
To show a formation process of continuing support system for Intermediate and Mountainous Area by the city dwellers, this study focuses on the volunteer activity, “Furusato Volunteer”, initiated by Kyoto Prefecture. Interview and questionnaire survey were employed. The process was separated into three stages. In the first stage, participants join the volunteer because of satisfaction of the activity. In the second stage, they join the activity largely because of human relationships in the area. In the third stage, the relationship makes them feel that they want to support the area more often and they make a volunteer organization by themselves.
