Abstract
This paper studied out capabilities of large scare rice farms in the mountainous area with normative analysis. About 20ha scale farms would profitably survive on the current production facilities although the inequality of the income between the most profitable area and the worst is about five million yen per year. The effect of direct income support varies by payment range and regional characteristics. The payment will encourage farming in the disadvantaged fields using summer labor to the maximum level. Further 30a plots will be preferred by rice farms to nearer 10a small plots.
