Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new design concept for human computer interaction named Tangible Augmented Reality. Tangible User Interface was proposed as a post-GUI interface and many researchers have showed its importance and effectiveness. We improved this concept by combining 3D display functionality in real world based on Augmented Reality technology. We show effectiveness of Tangible Augmented Reality with two prototype systems based on this concept. First one is MagicBook. User can see 3D virtual objects in real book and also fly in virtual scene. Second one is MagicPaddle. User can manipulate virtual objects by simple cardboard small paddle and make 3D virtual scene.
