Abstract
[Activity Report] This qualitative research paper reviews international development assistance in education sector by Japanese small-sized enterprises in Tabuan Village, the poor rural area of the Philippines. In recent years, the Philippines is considered as Asia's economic bright spot, with its GDP growing. However, a large gap between rich and poor are emerged and many people in the rural area are poor. The actors involved in the development assistance in this country have diversified and activities themselves have broadened throughout the years. To ease the poverty, the Japanese company has implemented the various projects, such as construction of new school buildings and sanitary facilities in Tabuan Village. Using qualitative analysis, the research shows the positive contribution that the aid has made to education in aid-recipient site, the most tangible outcome of which is the contribution that aid makes to expanding enrolments of basic education. Furthermore, the construction of the school building and related facilities has given economic benefits to the project site. Also by utilizing local resources, cost-cutting was made and the project became more efficient than typically seen with grant aid for general projects. As a result of these efforts, this research concludes that the activities directly benefit the people at the grassroots level in the region for the improvement of their welfare.
