Abstract

Many AYAs are candidates for hematopoietic cell transplantation for leukemia and other hematopoietic diseases, and the treatment period is long, forcing them to interrupt their studies and take leaves of absence from work.

In a survey of schooling and employment support for hematopoietic cell transplant patients in the Chugoku region, all physicians surveyed answered that the current schooling support system was inadequate, and approximately 85% of physicians answered that employment support was also inadequate. In February 2022, the Japanese Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (JSTCT) published the “employment support leaflet” consisting of three types of information at diagnosis, before and after transplantation, as a useful tool for the operation of outpatient long term follow up (LTFU) after transplantation to provide necessary information for employment support.

The “post-AYAs” after the age of 40 is also eligible for fertility preservation therapy and post-preservation assisted reproductive technology until the age of 43. However, society, including medical professionals, is less aware of this issue and needs to be well-known.
