Abstract

This study summarizes international opinion on nuclear disarmament issues using a metaresearch design. This study aimed to clarify the characteristics of public opinions by country. In an international community where nuclear disarmament is stagnant, the search formeans other than diplomacy to encourage disarmament is an important issue. To encouragechanges in national security policy, states need to recognize that the expected utility ofnuclear disarmament is larger than the status quo, even given the existence of nuclear deterrence. Public opinion is one important independent variable that affects the government. By focusing on public opinion, this study aims to design international surveys on people’svalues regarding nuclear issues and analyze the influence of public opinion. This studyclassifies states into four groups: a country to have ever suffered atomic bombings, nuclearpowers, potential nuclear powers, and non-nuclear states. Comparative data analyses aredone within a state, between states, and between groups These analyses lead to conclusionsthat can help shape public opinion in favor of nuclear disarmament.
