抄録
1. The injection of 2 cc. of 1% morphine hydrochloride solution per kilogram body weight, causes hyperglycemia in rabbits. When the injection is repeated, the hyperglycemic action of the drug gradually gets weaker. If the drug is withheld for sometime, the hyperglycemia recurs to approximately the same degree as after the first injection.
2. A single injection of morphine usually has no influence upon its hyperglycemic action after 3 or 4 days.
3. The mechanism of morphine hyperglycemia is mediated through the splanchnic nerves.
4. Ergotamine tartarate suppresses morphine hyperglycemia.
5. Suprarenal glands are the essential organs in producing morphine hyperglycemia.
6. Luminal sodium, 0.1gm. per kg. applied hypodermically, has almost no influence on the normal blood sugar content.
7. Luminal sodium suppresses morphine hyperglycemia to a certain extent.
8. Morphine hyperglycemia occurred just the same after the decortication.
9. Morphine hyperglycemia could not be observed in decerebarted rabbits.
