By experiments on dons the following results have been obtained.
1. A high-fat diet has no remarkable influence upon the acetone forming function of the liver from butyric acid.
2. 1-2 weeks fasting has no marked influence upon the acetone forming function of the liver from butyric acid.
3. 3 weeks fasting lowers the acetone forming function of the liver from butyric acid.
4. The acetone forming function of the liver from butyric rend has a relation to its glycogen content to some extent.
5. The important role of extrahepatic factors is not negligible in the acetone metabolism.
I wisn to express my gratitude to Prof. N. Kageura for suggesting this study and his guidance throughout the course of my research. My thanks are due to Dr. Sendju also for his help and advice.
