Abstract
1. Glycogen is synthesized from glucose in the presence of hexokinase and the glycolytic enzyme system of muscle tissues. Hexokinase alone cannott react with glucose. The synthesis of glycogen from glucose is inhibited by monoiodoacetic acid.
2. The mechanism of the production of lactic acid from glucose by the system, muscle extract + hexokinase, has been discussed.
