Abstract
1. The present experiments have shown that both the uncouplers and diethyl dithiocarbamate (DDC) known as a chelating agent, have the same actions in phenotype, though the mechanism of their inhibitions is quite different. DDC exerts its inhibiting action through the appearance of Fe++-free state; EDTA, Oxine, α, α'-dipyridyl, and phenan-throline, also have the same effect.
2. The adaptive formation of the enzyme system metabolizing γ-ABA of Achromobacter sp. UH3 requires Fe++.
3. Some of the metal ions inhibit the enzyme formation and O2 uptake. Co++and Ni++show inhibitions competitive to Fe++. Ag+, Hg+, Hg++, and Cu++stop O2 uptake in the process oxidizing γ-ABA completely.
4. By using suitable chelating agents, some inhibitions by these metal ions can be easily eliminated.
