Using electrophoresis two components are separated from the cryptocytochrome c fraction previously obtained. Cathodical nonheme protein is the denitrifying enzyme that catalyses the gas production from hydroxylamine and nitrite or DMPPD and nitrite in the presence of cytochrome C5521 fraction under the anaerobic condition while the red component, cryptocytochrome c, has no activity' for the gas evolution.
Our thanks are due to Dr. Iwasaki for his valuable advice, especially in the experimental techniques.
