II. Reactions of Body-wall Hemoglobins with Ethylisocyanide and Potassium Cyanide

Abstract
The combining reactions of two distinct hemoglobins from body-wall tissue of Ascaris lumbricoides with ethylisocyanide and potassium cyanide have been studied. The affinity of both hemoglobins for ethylisocyanide is to be 9×10-7M for A1 and 3.9×10-5M for A2, and that for cyanide is to be 9.5×10-2M for A1 and 5.0×10-2M for A2, respectively.
A1 hemoglobin exhibits a heme-heme interaction in the ethylisocyanide equilibrium, but A2 hemoglobin exhibits the converse situation. Both hemoglobins do not show the Bohr effect in ethylisocyanide equilibrium. The properties of the reaction of both hemoglobins with cyanide is almost the same with that of the reaction with ethylisocyanide.
