1. The new bile acid, allochenodeoxycholic acid was synthesized from the anhydro-5α-cyprinol.
2. Thin layer and gas chromatographic analyses using the synthetic allochenodeoxycholic acid as the reference substance revealed that the giant salamander bile contains allochenodeoxycholic acid as its minor constituent.
