A New Model of Proton Motive ATP Synthesis: Acid-Base Cluster Hypothesis

In oxidative and photosynthetic phosphorylation, the release of ATP from the catalytic site of F₁-ATPase by proton flux was explained by the conformational change induced in a proton reacting acid base cluster in the ATPase.
