Professor Shin’ichi Ishiwata, the former Editor-in-Chief of Biophysics and Physicobiology (BPPB), has succeeded in creating BPPB as a high quality international journal. After his great achievement, I take over the job of the Editor-in-Chief from January 2020. At the same time, about a half of the members of the Editorial Board are exchanged.
The mission of the journal, BPPB, is to continuously provide authorized opportunities for peer-reviewed presentations of researches in the wide field of biophysics, as the official on-line journal of the Biophysical Society of Japan (BSJ). In addition, “Physicobiology” is a new word, proposing that the scope of the journal could be widen to broader range of biologists and could further stimulate the exchange of ideas among the biophysicists.
For that mission, I would make BPPB to be always favorable for authors, readers and even reviewers, collaborating with the Editorial Board members. To authors, we would make our efforts to offer simple submission and rapid publication with low cost. To readers, BPPB gives informative and high-level science and technology. Articles in a new category, Commentary and Perspective, will introduce hot topics addressed at the Annual Meeting of BSJ. To reviewers, we would appreciate and clearly indicate their contributions to BPPB, and the peer reviewing procedure should be simple without enormous efforts.
BPPB should be contributed to open science. In fact, all articles of BPPB have been licensed under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license since 1st December 2017. Thus, all information including Tables and Figures in BPPB can be shared among everybody in the world. BPPB also appreciates and cooperate with the preprint servers such as arXiv, bioRxiv, and ChemRxiv. In addition, we would encourage the authors to provide their supplementary data including the original data as the electronic Supplementary Materials of BPPB.
BPPB also welcomes the original research articles from biophysics researchers in all over the world, in particular those in the Asia-Pacific area, with whom the BSJ strongly cooperates at the Annual Meetings. We also cooperate with the International Union of Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB) and its review journal, Biophysical Reviews (BREV). The 21st International Congress of IUPAB will be held in Kyoto, Japan in 2023, and the information of the Congress will also be frequently announced on BPPB.
Finally, we will make our best to publish the Journal, BPPB, and would highly appreciate your cooperation with us.
