There are two kinds of paper awards given to the authors of the original articles, which have been published from Biophysics and Physicobiology (BPPB): Award for Outstanding BPPB Paper and BPPB Editors’ Choice Award.
The former is given by the Biophysical Society of Japan (BSJ) to the authors, who contributed to the advancement of biophysics by their groundbreaking articles. Every year, the selection committee organized in the BSJ has selected a single article for the Outstanding BPPB Paper. This year, however, the committee faced considerable difficulty in selecting a single article as the best awardee, and so the committee selected the best two articles for the 12th awardees for Outstanding BPPB papers published between 2016 and 2021. The first one is for Dr. Hideki Kandori et al. in Nagoya Institute of Technology for their article “Molecular properties of a DTD channelrhodopsin from Guillardia theta” Biophys. Physicobiol. 14, 57–66 (2017) [1]. The second one is for Dr. Shoji Takada in Kyoto University for his Review article “Gō model revisited” Biophys. Physicobiol. 16, 248–255 (2019) [2]. At the 61st Annual Meeting of the BSJ held in November 2023, the two awardees, Dr. Hideki Kandori and Shoji Takada, make the Award Seminars.
The latter one, the 9th BPPB Editors’ Choice Award, is given by the BSJ to the authors of the articles in the BPPB, who made scientifically unique contributions to the field of biophysics, published in 2022. This year, the awardees are the following six authors. Dr. Hiroaki Yokota in the Graduate School for the Creation of New Photonics Industries [3], Dr. Takao K. Suzuki in the University of Tokyo [4], Dr. Etsuro Ito et al. in Waseda University [5], Dr. Tsuyoshi Terakawa et al. in Kyoto University [6], Dr. Akinori Awazu et al. in Hiroshima University [7], and Drs. Yuhei Araiso and Toshiya Endo in Kyoto Sangyo University [8]. At the 61st Annual Meeting of the BSJ, the awardees are announced, and they make brief comments for their works.
