Effect of vertical layout and horizontal layout of three analog meters on reading errors was experimentally compared. Virtual meter panels with straight layout of three meters was instrumented by Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. When eyes could move at right angles to the layout angle of meters,the magnitude of reading error hardly depends on the layout angle of meters. But if the virtual meter panel is designed carefully such as to avoid the motion of eyes at right angles to the layout angle of meters, the magnitude of reading error at vertical layout is smaller than that at horizontal layout.
