The aim of this paper is to present the morphological descriptions and unique burial styles of human skeletal remains excavated from the Nakatsu shell mound, which is located at Tamashima kurosaki, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture. The human skeletal remains of burial pit No.1 indicated that the bones of young individuals were buried in this pit, and the skull and long bones, except for forearms, had been removed intentionally. Those of burial pit No.2 was of a young adult female, and suggested the possibility of placing a pair of stones on the eyes of the deceased among the Jomon people that has never been reported earlier.
