In Japan Mannia fragrans is known to be distributed and to have several habitats in the central Honshu. We confirmed that this species was growing in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, in 2020. The habitat was the grassland between the parking lot and the building. This species was overwintering, and the matured sporophytes were observed not only in December but also in March.
