Abstract
Direct spark excitation of a powdered sample is investigated for the analysis of metal oxides. In this technique, consumption of the sample is kept stationary by selecting the shape of auxiliary electrode and stable line intensity is obtained by finding an appropriate excitation condition.Influence of chemical combination of elements on working curves is eliminated by fusing the samples with Li2CO3-B2O3 mixture.
This method makes it possible to determine the concentration of Fe2O3, SiO2, CaO, MgO, Al2O3, CuO and ZnO ranging from one to 80% in oxide samples with an error less than 10% of the own value.
When applied to the determination of metal elements in a boiler scale, the procedure gave results as good as those of chemical analysis in samples with compositions similar to the standard.
