A rapid scanning spectrometer developed for atomic emission spectrometry was applied to direct simultaneous determinations of elements in reference rock powders by nebulizing slurry into an inductively coupled plasma. Accuracy and precision were estimated for the determinations with the use of standard solutions, standard addition and internal standard. Improved results were obtained by combined use of a yttrium solution as the internal standard and a reference rock powder as the standard sample.
