Appearance of ferromagnetism in normally nonmagnetic materials in the size of nanometer scale has been theoretically predicted. This originates from the intrinsic change in the electronic structure due to the low dimensional character of nano-scale material. Despite of the theoretical prediction, few experimental studies have succeeded in verifying the appearance of ferromagnetism. In this study, we have demonstrated a clear evidence that the ferromagnetism appears in polyhedral Pd fine particles with a clean surface. Furthermore, the ferromagnetism of Pd fine particle appeared only on the (100) facet of the polyhedral particle.
