Postlarvae of two pandalid species genus Pandalopsis Spence Bate, 1888, P. coccinata Urita, 1941 and P. spinosior Hanamura, Kohno & Sakaji, 2000, which have abbreviated development, are examined in order to assess diagnostic characters for species differentiation. It has been found that the postlarvae of the two species are distinguished by 1) the ratio of dactylus length/propodus length, 2) the position of the distalmost flexor spinule of dactylus of the third pereopod, and 3) the color pattern of the pereopods in the first stage. The former two characters are useful in differentiating the two species throughout the ontogenetic stages.
