Weibull analysis is an effective approach for studying the strength distribution of carbon fibers. However, some previous studies reported only the average strength and standard deviation. Therefore, the Weibull distribution cannot be determined by referencing such studies. To that end, this study proposed a method for estimating the Weibull parameters from the data of the average strength and standard deviation using the method of moments. The number of defects and their errors were derived from the tensile strength and standard deviation, and their validity was investigated. The results indicated that the method of moments can be used to estimate the approximate number of defects and their errors from the tensile strength data of carbon fibers. Because this method can be used to estimate the Weibull parameters from previously reported results, it may be useful for research and development using past literature. Furthermore, the number of tensile tests was determined through these analyses.
