Many high school students have difficulty in understanding English verbs followed by complex complements. Our focus was put on 'SVO to V' structure, because 98 types of verbs are introduced in previous studies. According to our research, based on three types of corpora such as COCA, learner corpus and textbook corpus, the following three points were identified: (1) The most frequent verbs are 'want,' 'allow,' 'ask,' 'tell,' and 'expect.' (2) Japanese learners overuse 'want,' while they underuse 'allow' and 'expect.' (3) Hardly any explicit knowledge about 'allow' and 'expect' is presented in English textbooks. In the future, the usage of those verbs should be explicitly described in the new textbook, 'English expression.'
