Abstract
The objective of this study is to produce a prototype of “mesh couch”, a piece of furniture for supine therapy in the forest, and to verify its therapeutic effect on site on the registered forest therapy road. The creation of mesh couch has been planned specifically as an equipment to enable a rest in a supine position in the forest. A supine position on a couch and a regular sitting on a backless stool were compared on the forest therapy road in Okutama Town, Tokyo. The blood pressures and pulse rates of the subjects were measured while questionnaires and the POMS were given to them. In the survey, positive psychological and physiological effects were observed with the subjects keeping a supine position and it has been learned that the postures were also beneficial in its creation of a nice view of the woods.
