Abstract
Recently, serious deforestation has been reported in Teknaf peninsula in Bangladesh. Betel cultivation is considered as one of factors of forest degradation. Questionnaire survey about consciousness and individual attributes of local people is conducted to clarify economic and social factors causing betel cultivation statistically. Furthermore, dissemination process of betel cultivation is revealed in time series aspect. The results are examined by complementary use of remote sensing data. The results reveal an impact of betel cultivation to deforestation and how characteristics of households starting betel cultivation have been changing.
