Abstract

The overgrowth of kudzu (Pueraria lobata (Willd.) Ohwi) on road slopes has been a persistent issue. It is important to increase people's attitude to the growth of kudzu in order to realize sustainable and low-cost maintenance of road slope in consideration of environmental conservation. The aim of this study is to reveal people's attitude towards the overgrowing of kudzu and the individual's background associated with this attitude. An online survey of people living in the Tokyo metropolitan area (n=1,000) was conducted to assess their views on slope revegetation of highways in the Ibaraki Prefecture. A large number of respondents did not allow kudzu that goes over the fence at the toe of the slope. Even if kudzu did not go over the fence, over 40% of respondents did not allow kudzu.
