Abstract

In this research, we estimated a redundant capacity of general waste treatment facilities in Kinki, Chubu, Chugoku and Shikoku region to treat the waste plastics subject to import restriction in Asian countries (“restricted waste plastics”). A calorie-based calculation under assumption of the maximum load capacity of exhaust gas treatment facility was conducted in this estimation. From the analysis, we obtained the following conclusions; 1) The amount of restricted waste plastics generated in the study area was 916,300 tons per year, 2) In case that the restricted waste plastics were accepted at the facilities where the power generation efficiency were more than 21%, only 10,100 tons per year of restricted waste plastics could be treated in domestic facility, 3) The general waste treatment facilities in the study area had potential to treat 893,300 tons per year of restricted waste plastics if the criteria of power generation efficiency was more than 12%.
