Abstract
This study surveyed Sapporo residents to understand their perceptions of the local government's brown bear plans and effective countermeasures. It also explored environmental education needs concerning brown bears, focusing on methods, content, and target audiences. The survey revealed respondents of Sapporo residents have a strong interest in brown bears, but more fear than affinity, believing the government is primarily responsible for brown bear management. Environmental education was found to be insufficient, with residents seeking information mainly on practical ways to deal with brown bears as dangerous animals.
