Abstract

This study verified load carrying capacity and stiffening effect of a road bridge culvert reinforced using Metal-Grid expanded type and sprayed with PCM. In the experiment, We performed the static load test on un-reinforced culvert and reinforced culvert that was fabricated on the same condition. The reinforced culvert were installed with Metal-Grid expanded type, sprayed with epoxy adhesive to enhance adhensivity then sprayed with PCM at 40mm(increased thickness 30mm). Test results shows that the maximum load carrying capacity of the un-reinforced culvert was 464.7kN and the reinforced culvert with 760.7kN, stiffening effect was increased 1.64 times. It is therefore concluded that the use of Metal-Grid expanded type, with sprayed adhesive and PCM as thickness reinforcement is a useful reinforcement method for road bridge culvert.
