Abstract

In this study, the effect of chloride ion penetration induced by preconditioning before freeze-thaw action on the scaling resistance of mortar was investigated. Freeze-thaw tests in a chloride solution were conducted with reference to Annex D of JIS A 5022, using mortar specimens prepared under various curing conditions, including wet and air curing. The results showed a negative correlation between the chloride ion penetration depth before freeze-thaw action and the amount of scaling. The scaling resistance was considered to be affected by voids due to prior drying and by freezing behavior near the surface.
