Antitumor activity and antiviral effect of bis (2-pyridyl-N-oxide) -disulfide (PODS) were investigated.
The growth of YOSHIDA sarcoma and chick embryo primary cells in a tissue culture system were suppressed by the low concentration (0. 05 mcg/ml) of PODS.
It is presumed, therefore, that the cells growth is remarkably suppressed in vitro by PODS due to nonselective action against cultured cells. In in vivo test, no antitumor effect has been observed on mice bearing EHRLICH carcinoma at continuous administration of the drug for 7 days.
In the case of antiviral test, it was proved that about 80% of vesicular stomatitis virus was inactivated in contact with PODS (10 mcg/ml) for 2 hours.
