Fosfomycin was tried on external eye infection. Administration was performed orally in capsule and syrup, which was observed separately. In capsule, fosfomycin was administered at a daily dose of 2. 0 g divided into 4 doses to 16 cases ranging 16 to 60 years old. The results obtained on 11 cases of hordeolum were remarkably effective in 5 cases, effective in 2 cases and ineffective in no case, and on 4 cases of chronic dacriocystitis, remarkably effective in no case, effective in 2 cases, ineffective in 1 case, undecided in 1 case and remarkably effective in 1 case of eyelid tumor. In dry syrup, fosfomycin was administered at the dosage of approximately 100 mg/kg to 12 cases consisting of 3 months to 7 years in age. The results obtained on 11 cases of hordeolum were remarkably effective in 4 cases, effective in 7 cases, ineffective in no case and remarkably effective in 1 case of acute dacriocystitis. As side effect, although diarrhea was observed in a few cases, severe side effect such as an allergic manifestation was not seen.
