Abstract
Sultamicillin, a new β-lactam antibiotic, was administered to 18 patients.
Clinical efficacy rate obtained was 66.7% in 4 cases of pneumonia, 75.0% in one case of acute laryngitis and 7 cases of acute bronchitis, 50.0% in 6 cases of acute exacerbation of chronic respiratory tract infection, and 66.7% in overall cases.
On bacteriological response, following results were obtained that one strain of S. aureus, 3 strains of H. influenzae, one strain of E. coli, one strain of C. freundii, and each one strain of K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa were eradicated after administraion.
Side effects were observed in 3 cases of diarrhea and one case of sleepiness and 3 cases were discontinued the administration.
As laboratory findings, slight elevation of S-GPT in one case and that of eosinophile in 2 cases were observed.
