Abstract
We performed preclinical and clinical studies on cefpirome (CPR), a new injectable cephem antibiotic, in the surgical field.
To examine the concentrations in plasma and bile, 1 g of CPR was administered by intravenous drip infusion to two patients with PTCD-tube, and samples were collected. The level in bile was 8.6-14.6μg/ml at 1-6 h after administration.
CPR was administered to 12 patients with surgical infections: wound infection (6 patients), subcutaneous abscess (2), cholangitis (1), abdominal abscess (1), pyothorax (1) and panperitonitis (1). The dosage was 1 g twice a day by intravenous drip infusion for 4-11 days. Clinical efficacy was excellent in 3 patients, good in 5, fair in 2 and unknown in 2. The overall efficacy rate was 80.0%(8/10). Bacteriological response in 8 strains was: eradicated 6, decreased 1 and persisted 1. No adverse effects were observed, though abnormal laboratory findings were noted in one patient (slight elevation of GOT and GPT).
