Abstract

We had an experiment of the respiration of horses during their field-labours with three farm horses, in the stock farm of Tokyo University. Respiration-frequencies and draft-resistances during their exercises; the ploughing, the cultivating and the harrowing, moreover the free-walking as a control; and recoveries of respiration pulse and body-temperature were observed.
And we had the results, that the degree of increasing of respiration-frequencies was in proportion to the intensity of labour during the exercises, and the process of their increasing indicated a waving curve. That is, the respiration-frequencies were increased in harrowing most remarkably, in ploughing were the next, and in cultivating were the smallest; and tne after values were resemble to these relations as mention above in all items.
