Abstract
In order to examine the effects of anti-rabbit semen isoantisera on fertility in rabbits, normal female rabbits were superovulated by injection of FSH followed by HCG and inseminated with spermatozoa suspended in normal female sera, anti-sperm isoantisera and anti-seminal plasma isoantisera. Isoantisena were obtained by 4 times injections of rabbit spermatozoa or seminal plasma with FREUND'S complete adjuvant every 4 weeks followed by 5th injection 2 months later. Ova were recovered 24 hours after insemination by flushing oviducts with phosphate buffered saline solution and examined wether it is fertilized or unfertilized. Fertilized ova were recovered from all rabbits when control spermatozoa suspended in normal sera were inseminated. In other hand, no fertilized ovum was recovered from any of the rabbits inseminated with spermatozoa suspended in isoantisera to rabbit spermatozoa. This suggest that anti-sperm isoantisera may have a harmful effect on sperm motility and penetration to ovum together with an action of the compliment like substance secreted from female genital tract. Fertilized ova were recovered from 2 of 4 rabbits inseminated with spermatozoa suspended in isoantisera to rabbit seminal plasma. In this case spermatozoa agglutinated in variable degrees but fertilizing ability itself might have not been inhibited.
