Abstract

Two methods for determining amino acid availability of corn and soybean meal were studied. One method employed digestion trials using laying hens (10 monthold Single Comb White Leghorn) subjected to colostomy in order to separate the urine and feces which are excreted from the cloaca in a mixed form, and the second employed the true metaboilzable energy procedure developed by SIBBALD using 10 month-old SCWL cockerels. There were statistically no significant differences in the true amino acid availability values between the two methods, although there were significant differences in the availability values for individual amino acids with the each method. It was concluded that there is no significant differences between the two methods in determining amino acid availability of feed ingredients.
