The ferric chloride method for coagulating wastewater from livestock barns was used to pretreat wastewater in order to more effectively decolorize the wastewater with a soil-column. The addition of ferric chloride to the wastewater resulted in not only the efficient removal of color but also the simultaneous reduction of chemical oxygen demand. The coagulation method was also effective in preventing clogging of the soil in the column during filtration of the wastewater.
