In general, we expect that he/she uses the personal pronoun wo in Chinese, when a speaker refers to himself/herself. By making detailed investigation, however, it has been clear that we also often use many other words such as the following instead of wo: (1) personal pronouns: zan, renjia, etc., (2) kinship terms: ma, ni jiejie, etc., (3) person's full name, (4) occupational terms: laoshietc. and so forth. From this fact, I propose that we should bring the concept of self-specifiers (words for self), which consists of the vocabulary categories such as the personal pronouns, kinship terms, etc., into Chinese.
