Exercise (up and down steps) and postural changes gave rise to such changes of the depth of Sm-wave in left auricular curve as following : 1) Depth of Sm-wave was not so much influenced as by postural changes by exercise, though it was larger in a dorsal position, especially when all limbs were lifted up, than in sitting i. e. the gravity modifies the venous return.2) After exercise Sm-wave became deeper except for a patient of congestive heart failure who showed smaller Sm-wave after exercise.3) As experiments showed that strong cardiac action accompanies increase of venous return though gravity is one of modifying elements of it, suction mechanism of heart caused by cardiac systole (Maekawa) is, I think, a effective element which accelerates venous return.
