Clinical heart failure may be divided into two categories, i. e., disturbance in energy generation system and that in energy utilization system. For instance, Basedowian heart or beriberi heart belongs to the former, and congestive heart failure belongs to the latter. Author made series of animal experiments, using various preparations affecting one or another of the above-mentioned systems, and pursued the correlation between function and metabolism of heart muscle employing ATP, HMP, ATPase, etc., as indices.
