Not only augmentation of the coronary blood flow but also many other factors are required to the drugs for treatment of coronary insufficiency. For example, the blood pressure lowering action which many coronary vasodilators possess is beneficial because it reduces peripheral resistance unless the action is excessive. This follows from the author's result of clinical study. Many factors other than the above can be conceived. However, for assessing the therapeutic effectiveness of coronary vasodilator drugs, it is essential to consider the combined effect on myocardial oxygen supply and consumption8) because coronary insufficiency is caused by imbalance between myocardial oxygen supply and demand. In this report, various coronary vasodilator drugs were studied clinically and experimentally, paying much attention to the above mentioned problems.
