Development of a Method for Measuring the Air Permeability of Concrete in Actual Structures

Abstract

The establishment of technology to assess the mass transfer characteristics of cover concrete by nondestructive and semi-destructive means is needed. This paper introduces an original non-destructive method called the seal method for assessing air permeability, which is one of the indexes of mass transfer characteristics, and a framework for converting the obtained air permeability index and moisture content of the concrete into the effective diffusion coefficient of chloride ions, which cause deterioration of RC structures.
