Abstract

Galvanized reinforcing bars are a type of corrosion protection reinforcement used in concrete structures. In 2019, the Japan Society of Civil Engineers revised the “Guideline on Design and Application Methods of Galvanized Steel Reinforcement for Concrete Structures,” introducing a performance-based design method. This has led to the increasing application of galvanized reinforcing bars to civil engineering structures. This paper introduces a case where galvanized reinforcing bars were applied to precast PC slabs, and it reports on the considerations that went into this application. It was confirmed that the quality of galvanized reinforcing bars satisfies the design values and the impact of galvanic corrosion is small in a dry environment such as the general atmosphere. Additionally, it was confirmed that the workability of galvanized reinforcing bars is comparable to that of ordinary reinforcing bars during construction using PC slabs, with the exception of plating repair.
