State-of-the Art on Development of New Materials and its Applications to Concrete Technology

Abstract

New materials have been developed and applied widely in many industrial fields in these years. Some of these materials would be applied to concrete engineering in the near future. This paper firstly searches for corrosion-and heat-resistant new material fibers as substitutes of asbestos, and discusses their capacity to reinforce concrete. Secondly, this paper discusses the abilitys of the impregnation liquid materials, in particular, silica alcohol sol, metal alcoxide and alkyl-alkoxy silan, to improve the durability of concrete. All of these liquid materials were verified to be effective for this purpose.
