Design and Construction of Element for Submerged Tunnels. Tama River and Kawasaki Fairway Tunnels in Expressway Bay-shore Route

Abstract

Tama River and Kawasaki Fairway Tunnels in Expressway Bay-shore Route are now under construction by submerged tunneling method. This report presents design of pile-foundation of the tunnel elements, mechanism of flexible-joints connecting these elements, control of cracks in the concrete during the prefabrication, out-fitting of the elements and immersing operation.
