Abstract

Hiroshima Gas Co. Ltd. has decided to introduce LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) as gas raw material, on the energy policy of Japanese government so as to promote long term security of material supply, uniformity of gas combution, security of customers and non environmental pollution. And a new factory of the company is now under construction at Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima, Japan. In pit type LNG storage tank is to be constructed in the factory area and the type is the first application in Japan. This construction is a new type of installing “an aboveground LNG storage tank with double metal shell structure” in reinforced concrete pit executed in advance in ground. Therefore it can be considered to have combined technical characteristics of both aboveground Tank and inground Tank. Civil work portion (R. C. Pit) of abovementioned tank system has already been completed. This paper reports mainly on the design of concrete pit structure and the execution of concrete works.
