This article argues that ‘Abenomics’ has to be reconstructed,if the government seriously aims to improve people’s living standard for wide range of citizens. Poverty rates and poverty reduction rates in Japan suggest that income redistribution is not only ineffective in reducing poverty, but actually deepening poverty for children and households where all adult members work(double− earning couples, and working lone parents and singles). On the contributing side of redistribution, Japan is among countries with least progressive schemes, has the highest rate of net contribution for lone parents. Finally, outcomes of ‘Abenomics’ are examined to lead some policy implications.
